Santo Domingo is the name of a city in the country. Este is the capital of the province of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. It is also a town. City: San Luis is the only district in the city. Santo Domingo Este is on the other side of the Ozama River, which separates the east and west parts of Santo Domingo, the capital city. This eastern side of Santo Domingo is more residential and less commercially developed, but it has also grown, though not as quickly as Santo Domingo itself. There have been new malls and department stores built there.
