HERMANAS MIRABAL is a province in the country of the Dominican Republic. It was split from Espaillat Province in 1952 and was called Salcedo, which is the name of its capital city. It is still called this way sometimes. The province is very fertile, and plantain is the main crop there. On November 21, 2007, the name changed. They made the ultimate sacrifice for their country by giving up a rich life to fight against the powerful Dominican leader, Rafael Trujillo. The Mirabal sisters came from Salcedo, where they were buried after they were killed, and they lived there until they died.
