Guanacaste is a province in Costa Rica. It is in the northwestern part of the country, near the Pacific Ocean, and it is called Guanacaste. In the north, it is bordered by Nicaragua. Alajuela Province is to the east, and Puntarenas Province is to the south. It has the fewest people of any of the provinces in Costa Rica. 10,141 km2 (3,915 sq miles) is the area of the province, which has 354,154 people and makes $2 million a year.
A city in the country of Guanacaste is called Liberia. Caas and Nicoya are also important cities.
