If you go to eastern Belarus, you'll find Mogilev or Mahiliou, which is a city on the Dnieper River. It's about 76 kilometres (47 miles) from the border with Russia's Smolensk Oblast and 105 kilometres (65 miles) from the border with Russia's Bryansk Oblast. 360,918 people lived there as of 2011. That's up from an estimated 106,000 people in 1956. It is the capital of the Mogilev Region and the third-largest city in the country.
